KINGMAN - Gov. Janet Napolitano will be breaking ground on the new Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Station Saturday afternoon at the Kingman Airport and Industrial Park.
"We're very excited to have the governor come," said Robert Riley, the director of the Economic Department at the Airport Authority
The Airport Authority received a $903,949 grant from ADOT's Aeronautics Division to build the new station. The Airport Authority will provide another $100,439 in matching funds for the project, along with funds from other sources for a total cost of $1,341,500. The goal is to open the project for bidding in January.
The Airport Authority plans to raze its current offices and build the new station on the property. New administration offices will be located within the station. The Airport Authority will pay for the administration part of the construction, Riley said.
The aircraft rescue firefighting department currently staffs three class one and two EMT-certified firefighters.
It also has a small responder and a newer fire truck for emergencies at the airport.
The Airport Authority will also be holding a dedication ceremony for Mohave Airport Drive.
The drive was repaved and rebuilt over the last year. A new railroad grade crossing was put in as well. The project was finished in July.
The Airport Authority will also be showing off its new aircraft rescue fire fighting vehicle. The truck was purchased in July.
The governor will be at the airport from 3-4 p.m. on Saturday.
